A Midsummer Night's Dream (Presented by Shotgun Players)

A fairy straddling a man with a "bottom's up" tattoo and a donkey head. They are standing in a moonlit forest.

The warrior queen, Hippolyta, is compelled to marry her captor, Theseus. A comical group of mechanics decides to gift the couple with a play performed at the wedding. Rehearsals are interrupted by a group of lovers in a chase of one another, heightened by magic juice administered by a mischievous fairy, Puck…and hilarity ensues. Shotgun has a reputation for bold re-imaginings of classic works. Buckle up for an adventure!

Degenerate Art Ensemble presents Skeleton Flower (Presented by ODC)

Degenerate Art Ensemble presents Skeleton Flower (Presented by ODC)

A very tall woman with cloud-like hair is dressed in an array of quilts. She stands atop a pillar of flowers. In the background, vivid green trees are seen.

Skeleton Flower is a semi-autobiographical exploration of complex struggles with identity, depression, childhood trauma, and the awakening of personal power. Degenerate Art Ensemble confronts these issues with humor and imagination—casting family as monsters from a Godzilla movie—and traces personal struggle through three fairy tales. Existing at the intersection of live music, visceral movement theater, dance, projected cinematic imagery, storytelling, and ritual, Skeleton Flower is a multi-dimensional patchwork quilt that conjures and consoles female ancestors through hand felted wools, ten thousand hand painted silk flowers, and knitted sweaters which fill fantastic worlds in the work’s cinematic imagery.

Degenerate Art Ensemble makes work inspired by punk, protest, comics, nightmares and fairytales driven by the power of live music and their own style of visceral movement theater and dance. The group has shown their work throughout the US and Europe known for their large scale dance and theater projects, concerts, site-transforming spectacles and ongoing public experimentation. Recent highlights of the group's work include a major exhibition at the Frye Art Museum, a commission by director Robert Wilson to interpret his work Einstein on the Beach and collaboration with the Kronos Quartet. Skeleton Flower has been shown in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Seattle, Mexico City and Odense, Denmark.

Made possible with funding from 4Culture and the Seattle Mayor's Office of Arts. Video production made possible by Zoobreak Productions.

Kayla Farrish/ Decent Structures Arts presents Put Away the Fire, dear (Presented by ODC)

A solemn African American individual faces the camera, half of their face covered in shadow. In the background, a man is sitting in a reclining chair.

Put Away the Fire, dear is an evening-length premiere that dreams in frames of Old Hollywood cinema revamped and remixed for live group performance. Exploration of film techniques, reconstruction of stories and archetypes, dance theater, and sound score provide the foundation for characters to bring film to life onstage and play out themes of love and darkness. Through captivating film noir, musical, romance, and thriller, Put Away the Fire, dear asks audiences to reimagine who plays the roles and what it could mean for excluded voices to hold or change these stories.

Kayla Farrish/Decent Structures Arts is an emerging company combining filmmaking, storytelling, dance theater performance, and sound score. The company has been commissioned by ODC Theater, Gibney, Little Island, Louis Armstrong Museum, Danspace, Pepatian/BAAD!, and beyond. Farrish has created through residencies like Gallim, Baryshnikov Arts Center, Keshet MSE, BAX, Petronio, and others. Her work as hybrids of live performance and film have shown at The Clarice, Park Avenue Armory, Lincoln Center, Judson Church, film festivals, and elsewhere. In 2021, she co-created site-specific immersive, Broken Record with Brandon Coleman at Little Island, co-directed Melanie Charles Y’ll D’nt Care Abt Black Women Film, solo for The Motherboard Suites at NYLA, Roster - Four/Four Open Air Series with Melanie Charles, and Martyr’s Fiction Feature Film.
